Moving Up: Going from a Tow RV to a Driving RV

Many campers ponder the question on which is better - the tow RV or a driving RV? Campers sit around the bonfire, exchanging ideas over the internet, or talking it over at a campsite, and often discuss what the advantages or disadvantages are between the two different RV styles.

Moving Up: Going from a Tow RV to a Driving RV

The main reason many people move from towing their RV to driving one is the 'tow' factor. You have to use your vehicle to pull a trailer or fifth wheel camper which can make it difficult to explore the areas where you camp. Learning how to tow a trailer takes practice, and some are never able to get a full grip on the technique. This reason makes driving your RV a more practical choice.

The Driving RV

The driving RV, or motorhome as most know them, have a built-in engine which allows you to drive it to and from the campsites or where ever you will park the camper. These RVs are the most expensive of the campers as they offer you full living accommodations with bathrooms, bedrooms, living room, and plenty of storage. There are other advantages and reasons seniors, baby-boomers, and those who RV full time choose to own a driving RV.

Pros of Driving RVs

You have a choice of size for the motorhome you want to own. There is a variety of sizes along with a broad range of prices. These RVs are no longer out of reach for the average consumer, and the choices out there make it easier to find one you can be comfortable driving. You will find it much different behind the wheel of a driving RV and need to learn and get used to changing lanes, making turns, and understand the 'blind spot' you will have to work with.

The motorhome is a more user-friendly camper when going down the road on your journey. When the roadways are safe, not curvy or in heavy traffic, you or your passengers can move about the vehicle. You have access to the bathroom, the refrigerator to retrieve a snack, or one of the beds to have a quick nap. The motorhome will also give you more room if you are camping with a mid-size to a large-size family.
