RV Plumbing Problems - How to avoid them

RV repair services - Nohr's RV Center

A lot of requests for RV repair services could be eliminated by following some simple plumbing tips. You probably should still get your tanks cleaned and your lines flushed at least once a year, but take advantage of these hacks to save you time and troubles while you are on the road.

Protect Your Drains

Be careful what goes down the sink or toilet drains to prevent clogs and potentially expensive RV repair services. Shower drains should have screens capable of caching hair, and all sinks should limit the size of objects that can be put in the drain. But protecting your drains also means disposing grease and oils to prevent them from ever getting into your plumbing at all.

Fix It Fast

When you notice a leaky faucet or slow drain, go ahead and find the problem. If you put off minor plumbing repairs, you are inviting major problems farther down the road. The best course of action is to get all necessary repair done before excursions, but never put off making the repairs in the hope they will fix themselves. They won’t, but it can get worse.

Clean the P-Trap

All sinks have a P trap to catch items which are accidentally dropped into the drain and manage proper drain flow. P traps are easy to remove and clean, and doing so at least once a year can prevent clogs, under-sink leaks, and other problems.

Check Your Hoses

Examine your hose and connectors often and repair or replace them as needed. Hose connectors are fairly easy to damage, but they can be replaced without much effort. You should also look for breaks or cracks in the hose which could allow unsavory leaks to occur. Always store your hoses neatly rolled to prevent kinks in the hoses.

Thorough Cleaning

The better you clean and protect your plumbing system, the longer it will last and less trouble it will give you. Make the plumbing system an important part of your annual spring cleaning, and go over it again before packing things in for the winter.

Take your motorhome in for RV repair services anytime something breaks or stops functioning properly. If you are comfortable fixing it yourself, feel free to do so, but don’t avoid paying for professional repairs when they are called for. Plumbing problems can cause everything from unpleasant odors to water damage to your flooring or cabinets, so keep your RV plumbing in great condition.
