Servicing your Motorhome

RV Dealers - Nohr's RV Center

Doing any necessary RV repair services needs to be taken care before the travel season begins. This goes for things like the engine and tires as well as verifying that the living space is in order and functioning properly. To give you an idea of what servicing your motorhome includes, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about the four types of maintenance your motorhome requires.

Scheduled Maintenance

Your motorhome needs regular servicing even if you don’t notice any problems. This includes tuning the engine, checking the tires, and making sure that all of your equipment is in good working condition. For example, your RV manufacturer suggests getting an oil change every 3000 to 4500 miles, and having your generator serviced no more than every 150 hours of actual use. Additionally, servicing your RV at the start of the travel season is recommended to avoid needing emergency repairs.

Emergency Maintenance

Things can go wrong while driving down the highway. It can be something simple such as a flat tire, or something more involved, such as your engine light suddenly coming on, the battery no longer charging, or a mechanical issue such as the tail lights going out or a trailer hitch getting bent. Emergency maintenance takes a high priority and should be addressed at your earliest opportunity.

Preventive Maintenance

This type of motorhome service is intended to supplement your scheduled maintenance and avoid needing emergency repair. You should keep an extended RV maintenance checklist, including preventive items such as:

  • Check your oil and filters
  • Check and fill the engine coolant
  • Inspect your tires and hitches
  • Inspect and tighten the belts
  • Clean the windows and adjust the mirrors

Incidental Maintenance

This covers everything else. If you have an electric outlet that is loose or not working, have it serviced. Tighten loose bolts and replace broken light lenses. Have your alignment checked by a professional. If there is something which could go wrong, make sure that it hasn’t and perform any servicing it may require.

With more than 50 years in the RV business, we have seen almost everything and heard stories about the rest. Getting RV repair services and inspections regularly is a very important part of owning a motorhome, impacting your family as well as other people on the roads. Because of that, we understand the importance of servicing your motorhome regularly and as needed. If you notice one problem, it is probably a good idea to have everything checked out just keep your family safe while on the roads.
